JPEG XS is a new mezzanine video codec standard targeting highest quality for slight compression ratios at low complexity and low latency. It addresses the needs of the broadcast industry to send production feeds over multiple Ethernet based links and offers visually lossless quality while reducing the amount of data by a factor of up to 12. A SDK (Software Development Kit) for en- and decoding of JPEG XS in real time is available for Windows and Linux and can be licensed from Fraunhofer.
